Research published on grassland songbirds and wind development

mahoney_birds Anika Mahoney, who graduated from the Chalfoun lab of the Wyoming Coop Unit with a Master’s degree in Fall 2015, and Dr. Anna Chalfoun are the authors of a new study entitled “Reproductive success of Horned Lark and McCown’s Longspur in relation to wind energy infrastructure.” The article was part of Mahoney’s thesis work, investigating the effects of wind energy development on breeding grassland birds.

Their work was published in a Special Section of the journal The Condor: Ornithological Applications which highlights the impact of various forms of energy development on birds. The Special Section was introduced on the journal’s blog: https://aoucospubsblog.org/2016/04/21/new-studies-highlight-energy-developments-impact-on-birds/

The Wildlife Society also highlighted Mahoney and Chalfoun’s work on their website, including photos and an interview with Mahoney: http://wildlife.org/how-prairie-birds-respond-to-wind-turbines/
