"There is nothing simple about nature.

Two Wyoming researchers studying the divergent paths taken by two elk herds that share a winter range near Cody made that point perfectly clear in Hamilton this week.

The researchers were members of a team that recently completed a 3 1/2-year study intended to learn why the portion of the elk herd that annually migrated into Yellowstone National Park's Lamar Valley fared much worse than the elk that stayed behind.

They spoke to a small gathering of sportsmen at an event hosted by the Ravalli County Fish and Game Association."
