"Field work concluded this week on a three and a half year study on elk and wolves in Northwest Wyoming. Biologists are trying to find out why migrating elk there aren’t reproducing very well.

On a spring morning, an elk herd on a ranch north of Cody ate the first green grass of the season. Biologists say there are two groups of elk in this are: the resident herds, and the migrating herds, that come in and out of Yellowstone. They say the resident herds are doing well, even though they also deal with bears and wolves.

The migrating herds are not doing so well. They don’t have as many calves. They do have a lot of challenges..."
